Trafford JSNA

The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) gives overarching information on the current (and future) health and social care needs of local communities in Trafford. It provides an evidence base to inform and guide the commissioning and provision of health, well-being and social care services. JSNAs are prepared by local authorities and NHS Commissioners and are overseen by the Health and Wellbeing Board.

The JSNA is regularly updated with new and refreshed information on a wide range of topics. We collect, analyse and interpret detailed information about our local population from different data sources including the census, health surveys and service-based information to identify gaps in services and reduce health inequalities. We are also adding information about high impact and evidence based interventions to improve health.  Future JSNA topics in development include Dementia, and Children’s Mental Health.

In addition to Trafford JSNA, publicly available statistics, profiles and reports are available in the Public Health Outcomes Framework, which can be viewed on the Office for Health Improvement & Disparities (formerly Public Health England) website.

The majority of data presented in the JSNA are public health data collected prior to COVID-19. We are expecting to see significant changes in a number of indicators. Our major concern is that we will see an increase in inequalities between different areas and population groups. Sections will be updated as new data come in.

The Public Health Intelligence Team at the Trafford Council is constantly reviewing ways to improve content and presentation of the JSNAs. If you wish to provide any feedback, please email JSNA@trafford.gov.uk
